Regarding urban (household) water storage, has anyone seen/used a Water BOB? We bought one, and we tested it out a few weeks back. I started a blog post on it with some pics, but never finished it. The manufacturer website is: http://www.waterbob.com/. It was actually pretty easy to use. My only concern is getting every bit of water out of it for…[Read more]

While straightening up the garage last weekend I thought of another source of potential emergency water. A dehumidifier. It will most likely contain some water already and if you can power it, it can be an ongoing source.
My dehumidifier collects mold. I have to dump a few tablespoons of bleach in there every week or two. I guess you could drink it, provided the bleach wasn’t too recent, yeah? Or, I could just let it stay moldy, and treat it once I’m in an emergency, I suppose.
Good point. Haven’t noticed that problem with ours and we just normally dump it in the garden but as with any ”alternate” source of water I’d always recommend treatment before consumption.

Hi All! Hope everyone had a great week. I have a question for the community. I already have my Katadyn Pocket filter, a fair supply of water on hand, as well as iodine crystals, several pounds of sodium hydrochlorite. I recently purchased a bottle of ”Stabilized Oxygen” (more out of curiosity). The product is advertised to dramatically increase…[Read more]
J, as I mentioned I’m working on a PDF for water. I have done a fair bit of research on Stabilized Oxygen and I have decided not to include it in the initial version on the document. I can’t seem to find any solid information outside of advertisements for it. That isn’t to say it doesn’t work I just don’t have enough info on it to feel…[Read more]
Bingo! That’s the same issue I came across. I did check with a friend of mine who is a professional biologist and this is what he wrote to me in response to my question:
“…Iodine is the most shelf-stable chemical, and the new iodine tablet kits come with a neutralizer. There are protocols for using bleach to extend water supplies. This works…[Read more]
