20 Jul 09 Blog Update

Not much work going on in the blog but I was able to add some pics of the shop and a block diagram layout on the workshop page.

I’ve gotten it in pretty good shape, a few more things to organize but I’m able to work in there now. Almost afraid to work actually, don’t want to make a mess.I put a small AC in there too to keep things cool. I need to insulate still but it stayed comfortable in there this weekend.

I went through a box of electronics that I’d collected over the years and stripped out what I though might be useful. Got a few DC and Stepper motors, gears, some switches, misc sensors a laser diode, also got some lenses from an old monster camcorder. Threw away the rest of the junk that was taking up space.

I Picked up a HF Powder Coating system. Need to play with it still but looks pretty good for the money.  It’ll certainly come in handy. I have an old toaster oven I can use to bake parts but I’m going to add an oven project to the list. I’d like to get something 3 or 4 times the size of the little oven so I can bake bigger parts. I’ll start looking for used toaster ovens/heating elements at thrift shops I think.

I also picked up some new UAV hardware to play with it is a small Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), I picked up the breakout board and two gyros. I don’t have anything to integrate with yet and this is actually for V2 of the UAV project but wanted to get it while it was available. I’ll post pics and specs in the UAV Section.

I am also formatting the “Ground Station” page which I will publish shortly. I have some hardware for this already. A few 10.4″ LCD’s and a touch screen that I picked up a couple years ago.  I am going to use this for the UAV but would like to also be able to use it for other projects as well.

I keep meaning to post about other blog articles that I’ve been reading here and there, but I’ve been lazy, need to get on top of that.

That’s all for now.

Found this on the DIY Drones site. Pretty cool video on what the future of aerial robotics may look like.

It’s been announced on DIY Drones that ArduPilot V2.2 has been offically released. they are listing new features as:

-The support of the protocols Sirf III, NMEA and UBX.
-Separated header file to easily setup multiple airframes (instructions inside the zip files).
-Compatible only with ArduShield (battery voltage, pressure sensor and GPS auto shutdown).
-And many more minor fixes.

They also announced that the Groudstation 2 and beta version of the ArduPilot manual is online as well.

Welcome to landshark labs.

I can’t have the first post be some random article, a proper introduction is required.
